About Udelv
Udelv is a logistics technology company focused on the autonomous delivery market for last- and middle-mile routes. Founded in 2017 by CEO Daniel Laury and former CTO Akshat Patel, the company is addressing the logistics industry's driver shortage and sustainability objectives. Laury, a serial entrepreneur with a background in digital advertising and investment banking, identified an opportunity in the gap between advancements in self-driving technology and the needs of last-mile delivery. His previous ventures include a $120M digital advertising agency and an early online lottery website.
The company's core product is the Transporter, a cab-less, fully electric autonomous vehicle. This design eliminates the driver cabin, including seats, airbags, and steering wheel, to lower production and maintenance costs. It operates using Intel's Mobileye Drive system for Level 4 autonomous navigation, capable of reaching highway speeds up to 70 mph. For unmapped areas like parking lots, a proprietary tele-operations system allows for remote control. Udelv has completed over 20,000 deliveries for various clients, including pilot programs for Walmart and XL Parts.
Udelv's business model is twofold, incorporating direct vehicle sales and a 'delivery-as-a-service' (DaaS) subscription. This allows clients to either own the Transporters or pay a recurring fee to use Udelv's fleet and management software. The Transporter itself features a patented, modular cargo container called the uPod. This smart container has adaptive shelving that can be configured into as many as 80 compartments to accommodate various package sizes and holds a payload of up to 2,000 pounds. The vehicle is offered in two battery options, providing a range of up to 270 miles per charge. The company has received reservations for its Transporters from companies in the US and Europe and was awarded a contract for a pilot program with the U.S. Air Force.
