Turion Space is an Irvine, California aerospace and defence company founded in 2021 by CEO Ryan Westerdahl (former SpaceX) with co-founders from Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and Boeing Phantom Works, building sovereign-grade orbital intelligence through integrated DROID spacecraft, sensors and the STARFIRE operating system. DROID.001 and DROID.002 have delivered more than 40,000 images; Turion is the first NOAA-licensed commercial provider of resolved Non-Earth Imaging in the United States and has been awarded 28 U.S. government contracts spanning NASA, the U.S. Space Force, SDA and the NRO. STARFIRE covers mission planning, autonomous tasking and constellation command, including software deployment onto Turion and third-party spacecraft. In April 2026 Turion raised more than $75 million in Series B funding led by Washington Harbour Partners, with Magnetar, HOF Capital, Center15 Capital, Industrious Ventures and existing investors Aurelia Foundry, Forward Deployed VC and FoundersX, to scale manufacturing from about 8 to 40 vehicles per year, expand LEO/GEO space-domain-awareness coverage (including STRATFI launches) and grow Starfire.
