Tuandaiwang
Defunct P2P lending platform for small enterprises
About Tuandaiwang
Tuandaiwang was a Chinese peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platform that connected investors with small and micro-enterprises seeking financing. The company was founded in 2011 by Tang Jun and Zhang Lin and was headquartered in Dongguan, China. At its peak, it was ranked as one of the largest P2P platforms in the country, with over 8.36 million registered users and having facilitated lending worth over 130 billion yuan. The platform's business model involved matching individual lenders with business borrowers, offering services like information collection, loan matching, and a risk control system.
The company's trajectory was marked by significant fundraising, securing approximately $396 million over several rounds from investors including China Minsheng Investment Group and JD Capital. However, the platform collapsed in March 2019 amid a broader crackdown by Chinese authorities on the P2P lending industry to mitigate financial risks. The collapse led to an investigation for illegal fundraising, with authorities freezing billions in assets and seizing property, aircraft, and vehicles. In December 2022, founders Tang Jun and Zhang Lin were each sentenced to 20 years in prison and received substantial fines for charges including fundraising fraud and illegal absorption of public deposits. The company, which once held a valuation of $1.5 billion, is now defunct.
