About Trelleborg Sealing Solutions
At its core, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, or TSS, is in the business of protection. It engineers and manufactures high-performance seals that prevent leakage, contamination, and failure in critical applications, from airplanes and cars to medical devices and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. These aren't just simple rubber rings; they are highly engineered polymer solutions vital to safety and reliability in demanding environments. The story of TSS is one of strategic evolution, born from a much larger industrial legacy. Its parent company, Trelleborg AB, was founded in Sweden in 1905 by Henry Dunker and Johan Kock. They started with bicycle tires and general rubber products, growing into a major industrial conglomerate over the decades. The real turning point for what would become TSS came in 2003. Trelleborg AB made a pivotal move by acquiring Polymer Sealing Solutions, a division of the Smiths Group. This acquisition brought together several specialized sealing companies, including Busak+Shamban, Dowty Automotive, and Forsheda, under one umbrella. This wasn't just another acquisition; it was a strategic decision by Trelleborg to sharpen its focus on specialized polymer engineering. Following the acquisition, the Busak+Shamban name was used for marketing until it was fully integrated under the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions brand in 2007. Today, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions operates as a key business area within the global Trelleborg Group. The company continues to grow through targeted acquisitions of its own, such as the 2024 deal for South Korean semiconductor seal manufacturer MNE Group. Looking ahead, the company is expanding its global footprint, with a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing campus set to open in Bengaluru, India, in 2027 to increase production capacity and integrate research and development.
