The firm was originally a division of Trak Global Group, an entity co-founded by Nick Corrie and Alan Cottrill, which focuses on telematics data for the insurance industry. Kamran Mahmoudzadeh, driven by a personal tragedy involving his son, brought his telematics expertise to Trak Global in 2009, significantly shaping its technological foundation.

In early 2024, TGSS was carved out of its parent group through a management buy-out (MBO) led by Dave Turnock, the division's founder and now Managing Director, and Andy Christopher, who was appointed CEO. The MBO was supported by a £9.75 million ($12.3 million) investment from private equity firm Foresight Group, aimed at fueling expansion into European markets and new sectors like agriculture, plant & machinery, and motorcycles. The new leadership team also includes Dave Shepherd as Chair and Alan Cottrill as a Non-Executive Director.

The company's core business revolves around a fully managed, one-stop security solution that combines hardware, software, and 24/7 monitoring services. It offers several hardware products, including the professionally installed T7 hard-wired device and the battery-powered 'Smart Sleeper' GPS/GSM device, to track vehicles, monitor driver behavior, and detect impacts. This service is designed to give fleet operators control over their assets, reduce theft, and manage vehicle recovery with a high success rate. TGSS reports a vehicle recovery rate of 90%, a significant figure compared to industry averages.
