Trail Security, founded in mid-2023, is an Israeli cybersecurity firm that operated in stealth mode before being acquired by Cyera for $162 million in October 2024. The company was established by CEO Zohar Vittenberg, CTO Nadav Zingerman, and VP R&D Roei Mutay, all of whom are alumni of the Israeli Defense Forces' elite Talpiot program and Unit 8200. The founders' shared military background in intelligence and technology laid the groundwork for the company's focus on advanced data protection. Prior to its acquisition, Trail Security raised approximately $35 million from investors including Cyberstarts, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and CRV. The firm specializes in developing an advanced Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution that utilizes generative AI. This technology is designed for organizations managing large volumes of sensitive information, providing a real-time layer of protection that moves beyond simple alerts to actively prevent data leaks. The platform uses real-time monitoring and automated classification to detect, block, and remediate potential data breaches across cloud, endpoint, and network systems. The acquisition integrated Trail Security's DLP technology into Cyera's Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) platform, creating a unified solution for data security. This allows for the discovery, monitoring, and protection of critical data in motion, effectively preventing exfiltration and unauthorized exposure. All 35-40 employees of Trail Security, including its founding team, joined Cyera to form the foundation of Cyera's new DLP division.
