TradeWindow
Global trade platform for exporters
About TradeWindow
TradeWindow is a software company that provides a digital platform for managing global trade, targeting exporters, importers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers. The company was established in December 2018 by AJ Smith, a fintech entrepreneur who serves as the CEO. Smith, originally from South Africa, had a background in creating financial technology solutions for lending and was focused on the challenges of digital identity, which led him to explore blockchain's potential for building trust in trade. The concept for TradeWindow was developed in partnership with ASB Bank's business innovation program, ASB Venturers.
The company's core business revolves around a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, generating revenue through subscriptions and transaction fees for creating documentation. Its primary market is Australasia, serving clients across sectors like dairy, meat, seafood, horticulture, and manufacturing. The platform is designed to digitize and streamline complex trade processes, consolidating compliance, logistics, and financial data into a single, secure ecosystem underpinned by Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), or blockchain. This creates a single source of truth, allowing multiple permissioned stakeholders—such as banks, insurers, ports, and government agencies—to collaborate securely and efficiently.
TradeWindow's product suite is modular, allowing clients to adopt solutions incrementally. Key offerings include 'Prodoc' for enterprise export documentation, 'TradeWindow Freight' for managing freight forwarding operations, and 'TradeWindow Origin' for issuing Certificates of Origin, for which it is accredited by both New Zealand and Australian government agencies. Another significant component is 'TradeWindow Cube', which enables secure data sharing across the supply chain. More recently, the company has been developing a next-generation 'Freight AI' operating system. A significant milestone was the company's direct listing on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) in November 2021, a strategic move to build trust with large enterprise clients and governments. The company is also pursuing a foreign exempt listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) to access a broader investor pool. For the fiscal year ending March 2025, TradeWindow reported record trading revenue of $8.0 million, a 30% increase from the previous year, and is targeting EBITDA breakeven for FY26.
