Powerful inventory management software for eCommerce and wholesale with Shopify, Xero, QuickBooks, Amazon, a B2B ordering platform, payments and mobile to take complete control of your business MoreLess
TradeGecko operated as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company, providing a cloud-based inventory and order management platform for small-to-medium-sized businesses (SMEs). The company was founded in Singapore in February 2012 by three New Zealanders: brothers Cameron Priest (CEO) and Bradley Priest (CTO), along with Carl Thompson (CMO). The idea originated from Thompson's personal frustration with managing inventory for his clothing label, which highlighted the need for a more streamlined back-end administration solution. After conceiving the idea, the trio relocated to Singapore to participate in the JFDI.Asia startup accelerator program, which helped them validate and launch the business.
TradeGecko's platform was designed to serve wholesalers, distributors, and multichannel e-commerce retailers by centralizing inventory, orders, and customer data. The system enabled businesses to manage operations across various sales channels, including online stores and physical locations, from a single interface. Its business model was subscription-based, with revenue generated through tiered monthly plans based on order volume and feature sets. Key features of the software included real-time inventory tracking across multiple warehouses, automated reordering alerts to prevent stockouts, and management of purchase orders. The platform also offered a customizable B2B e-commerce portal for wholesale clients, allowing them to place orders and view specific pricing. It provided integrations with major e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Amazon, accounting software such as QuickBooks and Xero, and shipping services, automating workflows like invoicing and order fulfillment.
The company achieved significant milestones, including raising $6.5 million in a Series A round in 2015 and an additional $10 million in a Series B round in 2018. By 2020, TradeGecko was serving customers in over 100 countries and had processed more than US$5 billion in gross merchandise volume. In August 2020, Intuit announced its acquisition of TradeGecko for a sum reported to be over US$80 million. Following the acquisition, TradeGecko was rebranded as QuickBooks Commerce. The co-founders, Cameron and Bradley Priest, joined Intuit to assist with the product and team integration. However, Intuit later announced that the standalone QuickBooks Commerce product would be retired in June 2022, with its functionalities being integrated into the broader QuickBooks Online platform.
