Torre Oria
A Chinese winery dedicated to original design and brewing techniques
About Torre Oria
In 1897, the Oria de Rueda family, whose background was in the silk industry, pivoted to the world of wine. They established the Torre Oria winery in Requena, a region in Valencia, Spain, constructing a modernist palace and winery that would become the brand's icon. The company made a name for itself by becoming the first winery outside of the traditional Penedès area to be officially permitted to produce Cava, Spain's famous sparkling wine. For decades, the winery operated as a family venture, building a reputation for its Cava and still wines. The story took a significant turn in 2013 when the current management team, led by Eloy Bautista and Pablo Aranda, took the helm. This new leadership transformed the company, focusing on international markets, which now account for 80% of sales. Under their guidance, Torre Oria shifted from a negative cash flow position to significant profitability, quadrupling sales between 2013 and 2017. This growth attracted new capital. In December 2022, private equity firm Portobello Capital acquired a 35% minority stake in the business. The investment was designed not to take control, but to fuel the next ambitious chapter of global expansion and product innovation, while the existing leadership continues to steer the company.
