THiRA Robotics
Autonomous mobile robots for challenging industrial environments
About THiRA Robotics
THiRA Robotics, a subsidiary of THiRA-UTECH, is a South Korean developer of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) specializing in solutions for complex and imperfect facility conditions. The company was officially established as a spin-off in January 2022 to specialize in AMRs. The leadership team includes CEO Peter Kim, who has a background in media services and entered the robotics industry in 2013, and CTO YoungHwan Park, who brings 30 years of experience from the auto-mobilized machinery industry. Jason Kim serves as the chairman of the board for the parent company, THiRA-UTECH, and is a co-representative for THiRA Robotics.
THiRA Robotics designs and manufactures what it terms "second-generation" AMRs, which are engineered to operate in environments previously unsuitable for automation. Unlike first-generation robots that require smooth floors and structured settings, THiRA's AMRs can navigate challenging surfaces such as damaged or uneven floors, slopes of up to 10 degrees, and areas with liquid spills. The company serves clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, automotive, and logistics industries. Notable projects include augmenting staff services at the National Cancer Center in Korea and streamlining factory processes for cosmetics conglomerate AmorePacific.
The company's product line includes the T-series and L-series robots, capable of handling payloads from 200 kg to over 1,000 kg. All core technologies, including control software, mechanical and electrical design, and the robot operating system, are developed in-house. Their robots feature a triple safety system with Lidar and 3D cameras for advanced visual recognition. The business model focuses on providing a turnkey solution, offering a complete system with its own Fleet Management System (FMS) that can control and monitor multiple robots. The company expanded into the U.S. market in March 2023.
