Thin Red Line, officially announced by founder Luo Yonghao in July 2018, is a technology startup initially focused on the augmented reality (AR) sector. The company's early mission was centered on developing AR as the next-generation computing platform, with initial recruitment targeting product managers and designers.

In a significant strategic shift, as of March 2025, the company is pivoting towards the development of artificial intelligence, specifically AI operating systems (AIOS). This new direction involves expanding the team to include AI product managers and data specialists in Shanghai and Beijing. To spearhead this initiative, Luo Yonghao has reportedly brought on Wang Wenjun, a former senior employee from Xiaomi with substantial experience in operating systems. This move indicates an ambition to create proprietary hardware to complement its software, a philosophy influenced by computing pioneer Alan Kay's belief that serious software developers should build their own hardware.

The company began with an Angel funding round in July 2018. The founder, Luo Yonghao, is a prominent figure in China's tech scene, previously known for his ventures in the smartphone industry.
