Thea Energy Inc., formerly known as Princeton Stellarators, is a deep-tech energy startup dedicated to commercializing nuclear fusion. Founded in 2022 as a spin-out from Princeton University and the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), the company is headquartered in Kearny, New Jersey. Thea Energy’s core mission is to overcome the historical engineering bottlenecks of nuclear fusion to provide an abundant, zero-emission baseload power alternative to fossil fuels. The company is actively developing a pipeline of fusion systems, notably including its "Eos" integrated stellarator neutron source and its eventual "Helios" commercial power plant design. Operating within the B2B energy and utility sector, Thea Energy targets a future where its technology provides scalable grid-level electricity. A defining technological advantage of Thea Energy is its complete reimagination of the stellarator. Historically, stellarators required intricately twisted, 3D modular magnets that were extremely difficult and expensive to manufacture. Thea Energy replaces these complex geometries with an array of simple, mass-manufacturable planar (flat) superconducting coils, managed by highly dynamic, software-defined control systems. This simplification not only reduces capital costs and construction timelines but also allows for vastly improved physical access for system maintenance. Backed by over $120 million in venture funding from prominent investors like the US Innovative Technology Fund (USIT) and Prelude Ventures, Thea Energy stands at the forefront of the global race to deliver practical, commercial-scale fusion power.
