The Path is a global AI therapy and coaching platform built to deliver accessible, proactive support for long-term mental wellness. The company was originally founded as Mental, a digital mental health app initially focused on the underserved men's mental health market, before evolving into a broader platform under its current name. The Path was co-founded by CEO Dr. Anson Whitmer, a PhD in Psychology & Neuroscience and former founding data scientist at Calm; CTO Tyler Sheaffer, Calm's founding engineer; and philanthropist and motivational author Tony Robbins. Whitmer, motivated in part by personal losses to suicide, and Sheaffer built the company after observing strong user demand for interactive AI audio in their previous work. In May 2026, The Path launched publicly and announced $14.3 million in seed funding led by Prime Movers Lab, with participation from Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, and Designer Fund. The capital is earmarked for team growth, platform expansion, and clinical research initiatives. The core product is a 24/7 AI-powered iOS and Android application that acts as a personal mental wellness guide. Unlike general-purpose chatbots optimized for engagement, The Path's proprietary AI is designed to challenge cognitive distortions, retain user history, and deliver personalized programs grounded in CBT, ACT, solution-focused brief therapy, and motivational interviewing. Users choose from 11 AI therapist personalities and receive customized behavioral interventions between sessions. The platform scored 95 on a mental health safety benchmark — well above the consumer AI average of 65 — and includes crisis detection that can route users to human clinical teams or national hotlines. The technology, first developed under the Mental brand, has already served over 50,000 members and processed more than 3.5 million messages. The company plans to introduce a $40 monthly subscription after an initial free-access phase to build its user base.
