Teradata
Autonomous knowledge platform for enterprise AI.
About Teradata
In a world drowning in data, Teradata helps massive companies make sense of it all. The company provides a high-performance data analytics platform, allowing global enterprises to manage and analyze vast amounts of information, whether it's stored in their own data centers or in the cloud. The story begins in 1979, born from research at Caltech and conversations with Citibank's technology group. A team of founders, including Jack Shemer, Philip Neches, and Walter Muir, incorporated Teradata with the vision of creating a system specifically designed for large-scale data processing. They launched their first database machine, the DBC/1012, in 1984. A pivotal moment came in 1991 when NCR acquired Teradata, a move that embedded the company within a larger tech organization. A year later, Teradata built a groundbreaking system for Wal-Mart, the first of its kind to manage over a terabyte of data. This period was one of significant growth, but the company's trajectory was about to change again. In 2007, NCR spun off Teradata into an independent, publicly traded company. This allowed Teradata to focus squarely on data and analytics. Since then, the company has navigated the seismic shift from on-premises hardware to the cloud. Today, Teradata is focused on its Vantage platform, a hybrid, multi-cloud data platform that helps organizations deploy artificial intelligence and advanced analytics. The company continues its evolution, aiming to be the analytical backbone for the world's largest businesses in the age of AI.
