Temple

Temple is a health technology startup developing a wearable device designed to be worn on the side of the head to continuously monitor cerebral blood flow. The company was founded by Deepinder Goyal, who also co-founded the food delivery giant Zomato. Goyal's transition from the CEO of Zomato's parent company, Eternal, to its vice chairman allows him to focus on higher-risk ventures like Temple.

The product originated from Goyal's personal research initiative, Continue Research, which explores human longevity and is backed by $25 million of his own capital. The technology is based on what Goyal terms the "Gravity Ageing Hypothesis," which posits that the long-term pull of gravity on the body may reduce blood circulation to the brain, contributing to the aging process. The device aims to provide real-time data on cerebral blood flow, a metric generally measured in controlled clinical settings. It utilizes Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) to estimate brain oxygenation, which serves as a proxy for blood flow.

The business model appears to be centered on hardware sales, potentially coupled with a subscription for data analytics, a common strategy in the advanced wearables market. Initially, the device is being marketed toward elite performance athletes, with the goal of providing insights into metrics that current wearables do not measure, such as focus, stress responses, and mental fatigue. In the long term, the technology could have applications in monitoring cognitive resilience and age-related decline for the general population.

In February 2026, Temple announced it had raised $54 million in a seed funding round from friends, family, and early Zomato investors. The round, which included participation from more than 30 employees, valued the company at approximately $190 million post-money. Notable investors include Peak XV Partners, Steadview Capital, and several high-profile angel investors. Despite the significant funding and attention, the Temple device is still in the experimental phase and is not yet a commercially available or medically certified product.
