Telcoin
Mobile-first digital asset remittances and DeFi platform
About Telcoin
Telcoin is a fintech company founded in 2017 by Paul Neuner and Claude Eguienta that bridges the telecommunications, mobile money, and decentralized finance (DeFi) industries. Paul Neuner, the company's CEO, has a background in telecommunications, cybersecurity, and telecom fraud management, having founded Mobius Wireless Solutions, which provided solutions for mobile network operators globally. This experience in the telecom sector is central to Telcoin's strategy of partnering with mobile network operators to reach a broad user base.
The company's core mission is to provide fast, affordable, and user-owned financial products to mobile phone users worldwide, with a significant focus on the global remittance market. Telcoin offers a decentralized cryptocurrency platform built on the Ethereum blockchain and migrated to the Polygon network to reduce transaction costs and increase speed. Its platform architecture consists of three main components: the Telcoin Application, a liquidity engine called TELx, and a settlement layer known as the Telcoin Network. The native utility token, TEL, is used for transaction fees, staking, and governance across the ecosystem.
Telcoin's flagship product is its remittance service, which allows users to send money from their bank accounts or digital asset balances to over 40 mobile money platforms and e-wallets in more than 20 countries, with fees targeted at 2% or less. The Telcoin Wallet is a self-custodial mobile application that enables users to send, store, and trade over 100 digital assets. Beyond remittances, the platform is expanding to include a suite of DeFi services, such as TELx, a decentralized exchange where users can provide liquidity and earn rewards.
A significant milestone for the company was securing a charter from the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance to launch Telcoin Digital Asset Bank, the first Digital Asset Depository Institution (DADI) in the United States. This positions Telcoin to become a regulated, blockchain-native bank authorized to issue a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin called eUSD, bridging traditional finance with the DeFi ecosystem in a compliant manner. The company is a member of the GSMA, the global telecom industry body, and its ecosystem is overseen by the Telcoin Association, a Swiss non-profit.
