Techtonic
Techtonic is a full service software development services company and talent pipeline as a service company
About Techtonic
Founded in 2006 by Heather Terenzio McCollester and Moon Tong Lee, Techtonic is a Boulder, Colorado-based firm that provides onshore software and application development services. The company addresses the market's demand for technology talent through a dual-pronged business model that combines enterprise-level software development with a unique talent generation pipeline. Techtonic's revenue is primarily generated through providing custom software development, application testing, and IT consulting services to its clients, which range from startups to Fortune 1000 companies. These services are offered on a time and materials basis, as a fixed fee, or through long-term service level agreements.
A significant aspect of Techtonic's business is its registered apprenticeship program, established in 2012 and the first of its kind for technology in Colorado to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. This paid program was created to counter the shortage of developers by training individuals from diverse backgrounds, including women, minorities, and veterans, in software engineering fundamentals. Apprentices undergo rigorous classroom training before gaining hands-on experience by working on real client projects under the guidance of senior developers. This model serves as a direct source of skilled, onshore talent for Techtonic's consulting clients, who have the option to hire the apprentices full-time upon program completion. The company has reported a high placement rate for its graduates.
Founder Heather Terenzio, an alumna of Cornell University with a master's in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, served as CEO until late 2020, when she transitioned to Chairman of the Board. Her background in entrepreneurship and workforce development was instrumental in shaping the company's mission. Over the years, Techtonic has secured approximately $12.2 million in funding from investors including Camden Partners, Achieve Partners, and ZOMALAB to support its national expansion and marketing initiatives. The company was acquired by Bitwise Industries in January 2023.
