About Technitrol
The story begins in 1947, with roots tied to the very dawn of the computer age. Four engineering graduates from the University of Pennsylvania, who had all worked on the ENIAC, the world's first electronic computer, founded Technitrol. Initially, their work mirrored their groundbreaking experience, leading them to pioneer components for computer-memory storage and even hold the first patent for a magnetic disk drive. Realizing a broader market existed for the components they had to create for their own needs, Technitrol shifted its focus to manufacturing electronic components for a growing industry. For decades, the company grew by developing products like pulse transformers and delay lines. However, the rapidly evolving electronics landscape of the 1970s prompted a strategic shift. To avoid technological obsolescence and reduce dependency on a narrow product line, Technitrol embarked on a multi-decade journey of diversification through acquisitions. A pivotal moment came in 1995 with the acquisition of Pulse Engineering, a San Diego-based company with a strong international presence in electronic components for networking and telecommunications. This move significantly bolstered Technitrol's sales and global footprint. The acquisition was so central to its new identity that after operating Pulse as a business unit for 15 years, Technitrol officially changed its corporate name to Pulse Electronics Corporation in 2010. This rebranding, complete with a new stock ticker, solidified its focus as a unified, global electronic components provider.
