About Taaleem

Taaleem Holdings PJSC is a prominent education provider in the United Arab Emirates, specializing in the K-12 premium education segment. Established in 2004 as Beacon Education, the company was founded by Dr. Ziad Azzam and three partners to address the growing demand for high-quality international schools in the UAE. Dr. Azzam, who holds bachelor's degrees in physics and electrical engineering and a master's in theoretical physics from MIT, drew from his experience as a teacher and school principal to shape the company's vision of combining international educational standards with a strong connection to local culture and Arabic language. The first schools opened in 2005, and by 2008, following investment from National Bonds Corporation, the company was launched as Taaleem.

The company operates on a dual-service model, managing both owned premium private schools and government-partnership schools. Revenue is primarily generated from tuition fees collected from its student base, which stood at over 27,000 as of August 2022. Its portfolio includes a diverse range of curricula to serve a broad client base of local and expatriate families, offering British, American, and International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes. This multi-curriculum approach allows Taaleem to cater to different educational preferences and student needs across its network of schools. The business model is designed for scalability, using a centralized operational structure to achieve economies of scale and maintain consistent quality across its network.

A significant milestone in the company's history was its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) in November 2022. The offering raised AED 750 million (USD 204 million), with the proceeds earmarked for the expansion of its school network, including the development of four new premium schools. This public listing made Taaleem the largest dedicated education provider on the DFM at the time. Under the leadership of CEO Alan Williamson, who was appointed in 2019, the company continues to focus on strategic growth. Williamson's extensive background as a teacher, principal, and CEO of other educational groups in the UK and Dubai informs his leadership. Taaleem's strategy includes increasing enrolment in existing schools, ramping up newly introduced schools, and pursuing both organic and inorganic expansion, such as acquiring existing schools and securing more government management contracts.
