About T-Networks

T-Networks Inc. was an optical components company founded in 2000. The company focused on developing edge solutions for next-generation optical systems. It was reportedly founded by executives who previously worked in the optical components group at Agere Systems Inc. The firm secured significant venture capital, raising $61.1M from investors including Intel Capital, Greylock, Sequoia Capital, and others.

In July 2005, T-Networks and Application-Specific Integrated Photonics (ASIP) Inc. merged to create a new entity, Apogee Photonics Inc. The deal, structured as an acquisition of T-Networks by ASIP, was backed by a new $9.7 million funding round from the combined company's investors. Mike Decelle, the former CEO of ASIP, was appointed CEO of the newly formed Apogee Photonics. The merger created a company with a broad portfolio of 10Gb/s laser sources, serving markets from short-reach datacom to long-haul transport networks.

Apogee Photonics continued to operate in the fiber-optic components market, supplying advanced products like electro-absorption modulated (EAM) lasers and other active optical components to system integrators and sub-system manufacturers. The company aimed to provide highly integrated components to simplify the design and reduce the costs of communication systems. The strategic consolidation continued in March 2007, when CyOptics, a specialist in indium phosphide (InP) optical chips, announced it would acquire Apogee Photonics. This acquisition further expanded CyOptics' portfolio, particularly in high-speed source lasers for the 10Gb/s and emerging 40Gb/s markets.
