Syntonics
Advanced radio frequency over fiber systems
About Syntonics
Syntonics is a developer of advanced communication and signal processing technologies for military, civil, and industrial markets. Founded in 1999 as a spin-off from The Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory, the company initially focused on radio frequency electronics for spacecraft before shifting to specialty RF communications hardware in 2002. The President of the company is Bruce G. Montgomery.
The company's core business involves designing, developing, and manufacturing specialty RF-over-fiber (RFoF) communications systems and other innovative RF technologies. Its products are engineered to extend the range of radio communications in challenging environments, such as from kilometers above ground on aerostats to hundreds of meters below ground in tunnels. Key offerings include the FORAX line of RFoF antenna remoting equipment, Software Defined Radio (SDR) transceivers, and specialty radar systems. Syntonics also develops cutting-edge solutions for data exfiltration from extreme environments and for tracking high-value assets with Low Probability of Intercept/Low Probability of Detection (LPI/LPD) encoding algorithms.
Syntonics serves clients in the aerospace and defense industry, including various U.S. Department of Defense agencies and allied militaries. In December 2020, Ironwave Technologies, a provider of RF and Microwave solutions, acquired a majority interest in Syntonics to support the launch of new product initiatives like the Sniper Projectile Detection Radar (SPiDR) and the Command Post Antenna Remoting System (CARS).
