About SureCo

SureCo operates as a benefits technology company, concentrating on the administration of Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs) for large employers, typically those with 200 or more employees. The company's mission, dating back to 2009, was initiated by Matthew Kim, Matt Christopherson, and Marc Bablot to address rising healthcare costs. The trio initially ran a health insurance brokerage, gaining firsthand insight into the challenges of the healthcare system, which led to the official launch of SureCo in 2016.

The business model centers on providing a technology platform that allows companies to make pre-tax contributions for their employees to purchase individual health insurance plans from a wide selection of carriers. This approach shifts employers away from traditional, one-size-fits-all group plans and offers employees the flexibility to choose coverage that best suits their personal needs. SureCo generates revenue through this platform, which integrates with HRIS and payroll systems to manage compliance, reporting, and administrative tasks, thereby eliminating claims risk for employers. A key milestone was the 2020 acquisition of technology and key personnel from Hixme, a company co-founded by SureCo's current COO/CFO, Erik Wissig. This move, combined with lobbying efforts that facilitated ICHRA regulations, positioned SureCo to capitalize on the individual health insurance market.

The founding team's journey is rooted in direct experience with the insurance industry. CEO Matthew Kim's entrepreneurial path began after a personal family tragedy, which solidified his vision to make an impact in healthcare. He previously built and exited other firms in health and tech, including a national TPA and Bayside Insurance, an agency he co-founded with Matt Christopherson. Christopherson, a serial entrepreneur, met Kim while working in toner sales before they ventured into the insurance business together. The company recently bolstered its leadership by appointing seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry as Chief Impact Officer to advocate for better healthcare choices. In September 2025, SureCo secured $23 million in a Series A funding round led by Health Velocity Capital and Kaiser Permanente Ventures to scale its technology and team.
