About Support.com

Originally founded as Replicase Inc. in September 1997 by Mark Pincus, Scott Dale, and Cadir Lee, Support.com has undergone a significant transformation. Initially backed by a $2.5 million investment from SoftBank, the company's first focus was on self-healing software for Windows applications. In 1999, the firm rebranded to Support.com and shifted its focus to providing support software for enterprise companies, culminating in an IPO on July 19, 2000.

Historically, the company operated by providing technical support services for both individual consumers and businesses. Its revenue streams were primarily based on subscription plans for ongoing support and one-time fees for single-issue resolutions. Services covered a wide array of technical issues, including computer and mobile device setup, security, virus removal, and network configuration, delivered through a remote, U.S.-based workforce via phone, chat, and virtual house calls. The company also offered cloud-based software, such as Nexus for support interaction optimization, and self-support tools. Over the years, Support.com grew through acquisitions, including RightHand IT for managed IT services for small businesses and SUPERAntiSpyware for security software.

A pivotal moment in the company's history occurred in September 2021, when it was acquired by Greenidge Generation Holdings Inc. in a reverse merger. Following this transaction, Support.com became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Greenidge, a vertically integrated cryptocurrency mining and power generation company. This strategic move effectively shifted the merged entity's primary focus to bitcoin mining, leveraging its own power generation capabilities. While Support.com was to continue its existing lines of business under its CEO at the time, Lance Rosenzweig, the overarching corporate direction pivoted towards cryptocurrency. Subsequently, in 2023, the SUPERAntiSpyware brand was sold to RealDefense.
