Subspace

The company developed a proprietary global network by deploying its own hardware and utilizing AI-driven routing to find the fastest paths for data. This infrastructure was engineered to offer a faster, more reliable, and secure experience for latency-sensitive applications. Subspace's product suite included PacketAccelerator, for improving latency and reducing packet loss; SIPTeleport, for optimizing voice and video streams; and GlobalTURN for edge-to-edge acceleration. The business model was centered on providing this network as a service, allowing developers to deploy applications quickly with a simple configuration change. Clients included companies in the gaming, telemedicine, and financial markets. Subspace had raised a total of $109M in funding from investors including Lux Capital, Telstra Ventures, and Liberty Global.

Despite its technology and having hundreds of millions of users on its network, Subspace faced significant challenges. In May 2021, the company laid off half of its staff, signaling financial trouble. On May 13, 2022, Subspace announced it was shutting down its global network and business operations, citing that market conditions made it difficult to execute at the necessary scale.
