About Stox.com

Stox was an open-source prediction market platform built on the Ethereum blockchain. The venture was initiated by Stox and the Invest.com Group, leveraging the latter's experience in online financial services. The company was designed and created by veterans of the online trading industry from Invest.com, which has been in operation since 2014. Among the founders was Ophir Gertner. The platform was developed to allow mainstream audiences to trade on the outcomes of events across various categories, including finance, sports, politics, and weather, using the 'wisdom of the crowd' principle.

The company's history is marked by a significant Initial Coin Offering (ICO) that took place on August 2, 2017. The ICO was notably successful, reaching its hard cap of 148,000 Ether (worth approximately $33 million at the time) within a single day. The event gained additional visibility from a promotion by public figures like boxer Floyd Mayweather. The ICO offered STX tokens, an ERC-20 token, which were intended to be the primary currency for all activities on the network, including placing predictions and paying fees. The roadmap outlined the launch of the application in the first quarter of 2018, with a full interface for platform operators expected in the second quarter.

The business model was structured to create a decentralized ecosystem. It incentivized industry leaders with established customer bases, referred to as providers, to join the network and drive traffic. Invest.com was slated to be the first provider on the network. Users would participate by purchasing STX tokens to invest in event outcomes. If their prediction was correct, they would collect a share of the payout. Revenue for event creators and market makers was generated from fees charged for participating in these prediction events. The platform aimed to offer a peer-to-peer trading experience and an open-source mobile app for creating markets, making predictions, and trading with others.
