About SR Labs

Street Response Laboratories, widely known as SR Labs, was a specialized provider of high-performance, low-latency electronic trading solutions tailored for the global financial services industry.

The company was established in 2007 by its founder and CEO, Srinivasan Ramiah. From its base in New York, SR Labs focused on developing technology to accelerate the data-gathering and execution processes inherent in electronic trading. Its core business involved providing market data and exchange connectivity solutions, with extensive feed coverage that included all major North American, European, and Asian exchanges. The client roster was composed of premier financial institutions, including top-tier investment banks like Credit Suisse, JP Morgan, and Morgan Stanley, as well as hedge funds and proprietary trading firms.

SR Labs' business model centered on licensing its flagship software products, SMDS and SREX, which were utilized by its high-end clientele. A significant milestone occurred in January 2013 when the company secured a $53 million investment from Insight Venture Partners. This capital was earmarked for expanding sales and marketing operations, accelerating growth outside North America, and funding further product development, which included opening a new development center in Pune, India, to support its Asia Pacific and European customers.

In a strategic move to broaden its offerings, SR Labs acquired Wombat, a leader in consolidated data feeds and managed services, from Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in June 2014. This acquisition was a pivotal moment, combining SR Labs' leadership in low-latency market access with Wombat's comprehensive data solutions to create a more complete offering for global financial institutions. The company's journey as an independent entity evolved through a series of industry consolidations. In 2017, Vela Trading Systems acquired the ticker plant assets from SR Labs. Subsequently, Vela and Exegy, a provider of hardware-accelerated market data solutions, merged in 2021, bringing the legacy of SR Labs' technology under the Exegy umbrella.
