Founded by Brett Shockley, Spanlink Communications carved out a niche as a key provider of unified communications and customer interaction solutions, building its expertise on Cisco's technology. The company focused on helping businesses transition to and leverage virtual unified communications networks, providing consulting, deployment, and managed services. A pivotal moment came in 2007 when Spanlink announced it would spin off its software division, Calabrio, into a separate, independent company. This strategic move allowed Spanlink to sharpen its focus on its core business of selling and supporting unified communications solutions, while Calabrio concentrated on workforce optimization software for IP-based contact centers. Shockley continued as CEO of Spanlink, demonstrating a clear vision for both entities. The company's journey reached its next significant milestone in September 2014, when it was acquired by ConvergeOne, a major independent provider of IT and communication solutions. Under the leadership of CEO Eric LeBow at the time, Spanlink was integrated into ConvergeOne and renamed ConvergeOne Collaboration. This acquisition was part of ConvergeOne's strategy to expand its multivendor support, giving customers a single source for platforms from Cisco, Avaya, and Microsoft.
