Grupo Farmacéutico Somar is a long-standing Mexican pharmaceutical company, established in 1948, with headquarters in Mexico City. The company operates as a manufacturer and distributor of pharmaceutical products, focusing on improving the quality of life for people. Over the years, Somar has achieved significant milestones, including the integration of Lakeside, a company specializing in infectiology, and the launch of Advaita Pharmaceuticals, which is dedicated to dermatological products. The company was acquired by the private equity firm Advent International in July 2017. In May 2022, Procaps Group signed a definitive agreement to acquire Grupo Somar, although this agreement was later terminated in January 2023.

The business is centered around the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of high-quality pharmaceutical products. Its corporate strategy targets several key segments: generic drugs for the corporate market (both customized brands and traditional generics), products for government and institutional clients, specialized dermatological treatments, and therapies for infectious diseases. A notable part of their operation includes the manufacturing of sutures and surgical needles. Grupo Somar serves the private market and also offers contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services. The company operates six production facilities in Mexico, three of which are FDA-approved, enabling exports to the United States.
