Solid State Ion Energy Technology (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., also known as Ion Energy, is a high-tech enterprise focused on the development and application of polymer-based solid-state batteries. The company was established in February 2023, spun out of technology developed at Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

The founder and chief scientist is Professor Guo Xin, a materials science expert from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with over three decades of research experience in the field. His work focuses on solid-state ionics, and he previously served as a senior scientist at the Jülich Research Centre in Germany before returning to China. The company was founded to industrialize the solid-state lithium/sodium-ion battery technology developed by Professor Guo's team over more than 25 years.

Ion Energy's core business revolves around its polymer-based solid electrolyte material, which forms the basis of its all-solid-state batteries. The business model involves both providing complete battery cell technology and selling its proprietary sulfide solid electrolytes. The company targets clients in the consumer electronics, energy storage, and electric vehicle (EV) markets. Revenue is generated through these sales and partnerships, underscored by a significant Pre-A funding round of several hundred million RMB in early 2026 to scale production.

The company's primary product is a solid-state battery that replaces the flammable liquid electrolyte found in conventional lithium-ion batteries. This results in significant safety improvements, as the batteries are resistant to puncture, high temperatures, and other forms of extreme stress. Key performance features include a high energy density of up to 520 Wh/kg, an extremely wide operating temperature range from -45°C to 120°C, fast charging capabilities allowing a full charge in as little as six minutes, and a long cycle life exceeding 3,500 cycles. A crucial unique selling point is that its manufacturing process is highly compatible with existing liquid lithium-ion battery production lines, which allows for rapid industrialization with a comprehensive cost no higher than that of current liquid batteries.
