About Sofology
The journey of Sofology begins not in a modern showroom, but in a Lancashire auction room in 1974. Founded by Brian Tyldesley, the business, initially known as CSL (Clayton Saleroom), started by auctioning various goods. By 1982, the focus pivoted to furniture, specifically manufacturing and retailing sofas. The company evolved, ceasing its UK manufacturing around 2002 to source products from Europe and the Far East, a strategic shift to enhance value. A key chapter in the company's story was its rebranding. After a legal challenge from competitor DFS over the name 'Sofaworks', the company rebranded to Sofology in 2015. This set the stage for the next significant event. In 2017, in a turn of events, DFS acquired Sofology for £25 million. The deal was approved by the Competition and Markets Authority later that year, allowing Sofology to operate as a subsidiary within the DFS group while retaining its distinct brand identity.
