About SodaHead
Founded in March 2007, SodaHead initially emerged as an opinion-based social community, later pivoting to focus on its core polling technology. The company was established by Jason Feffer, who previously served as the vice president of operations at MySpace, and his childhood friend Michael Glazer. Feffer's experience in scaling a massive social network was foundational to SodaHead's initial strategy of building a user-driven discussion platform.

SodaHead operated primarily as a provider of polling technology for media companies and online publishers. Its business model centered on "Pollware," a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution launched in 2013. This ad-supported polling technology allowed publishers, from major media outlets like ESPN and Fox News to smaller bloggers, to embed polls on their sites and generate advertising revenue. A key feature was the ability for publishers to author their own polls or use content created by SodaHead's editorial team, while also gaining access to analytics and reporting. For clients requiring a non-branded experience, an ad-free, white-label version was also available.
In July 2014, SodaHead was acquired by Prodege, the parent company of the rewards community Swagbucks. The acquisition aimed to leverage SodaHead's polling technology to enhance user engagement on Swagbucks' platform, with the vision of rewarding users for participating in polls. Following the acquisition, the SodaHead team was integrated into Prodege's headquarters. A significant shift occurred on June 3, 2015, when SodaHead announced it was discontinuing its community features, such as user logins and content creation, to focus exclusively on its role as a market leader in distributed polling solutions for publishers. The company cited the need to concentrate its financial and human resources to ensure long-term viability in the competitive publisher market.
