Snappi
Greece's first ECB-licensed, zero-fee digital bank.
About Snappi
Snappi is Greece's first neobank to be fully licensed by the European Central Bank (ECB), a status it achieved in July 2024. The bank officially launched in September 2025 and is headquartered in Ioannina, a strategic choice to signify its commitment to serving all of Greece, not just its major urban centers. Snappi is the result of a joint venture established in 2022 between Piraeus Bank, a leading financial institution in Greece, and the core banking software vendor Natech. Gabriella Kindert serves as the CEO, with Niki M. Chiou as Deputy CEO. Christos Megalou, CEO of Piraeus Bank, is the chairman of Snappi's board.
Operating on a fully digital, mobile-first model, Snappi targets Greek tax residents with a suite of banking services accessible through its app. The company's business model is centered on providing a transparent, zero-fee banking experience. Key features include Greek IBAN accounts, virtual and physical debit cards, and integration with the national DIAS automated clearing house for seamless IRIS payments and local transfers. Snappi distinguishes itself from many other European neobanks by offering 24/7 live human customer support without relying on bots. As a fully licensed EU bank, all deposits are safeguarded under the same regulatory protections as traditional banks.
The product portfolio includes deposit accounts, which initially offered a 3% interest rate, bill payments, SEPA transfers, and cross-border transactions. Within weeks of its public launch, the bank successfully onboarded over 10,000 customers. Looking ahead, Snappi plans to introduce a 'Pay Later' feature, a Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) service for e-commerce, allowing users to make four interest-free payments. The bank also has ambitions to expand its services across the European Union, focusing on underbanked demographics.
