SmartBrain
Platform for investment portfolio consolidation and management
About SmartBrain
SmartBrain is a Brazilian financial technology company that provides a comprehensive platform for investment portfolio consolidation and management. It was founded in 2004 by Henrique Spinosa Netto and Cassio Bariani. The founders, both with extensive experience in the financial markets, initially created the solution to address their own need for a unified view of a family office's various fund investments. Bariani, a finance graduate from FGV and a CFP financial planner, previously managed the proprietary stock portfolio at Hedging Griffo. Spinosa, an engineering graduate, had a background as an investment controller and was a co-founder of Invest Tracker, Brazil's first fund analysis company, which was later acquired by Thomson Reuters.
The company's core business revolves around a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, charging monthly subscriptions for access to its platform. SmartBrain serves a diverse B2B client base, including financial advisors, investment consultants, asset managers, family offices, and large financial institutions like banks and brokerage firms. Its platform automates the consolidation of investment data from numerous institutions, processing hundreds of thousands of statements daily and managing portfolios worth hundreds of billions of reais. Key products include 'Advisor PRO' for independent advisors and 'Advisor Enterprise' for larger operations like wealth managers and family offices, which offers greater customization and white-labeling options. Additionally, the company provides tools for client prospecting (Prospect), an asset comparator and portfolio simulator, and a client-facing mobile app (AppConnect).
In February 2022, SmartBrain secured its first-ever funding round, a $10 million Series A investment from Inovabra, the corporate venture capital fund of Bradesco. This capital was aimed at accelerating product development, marketing, and pursuing M&A opportunities. Following this, in July 2025, the founders reacquired a controlling stake from Inovabra, which remains a minority shareholder. This move was intended to reinforce the company's position as an independent platform, which the founders believe is crucial for growth in the wealth management sector.
