Turnkey solar & BESS financing and installation for businesses (IPP)
About Skysun
Skysun is an independent energy producer founded in 2017 by Léopold Coppieters and Arthur Dawans. The company emerged from the co-founders' shared vision to make solar energy more accessible for businesses by removing financial and logistical barriers. Léopold Coppieters, with a background in environmental science, and Arthur Dawans, a finance specialist, combined their expertise to develop Skysun's business model.
The company operates on a third-party investor model, financing, developing, installing, and managing large-scale photovoltaic installations for its B2B partners at no initial cost to them. This zero CAPEX and zero OPEX approach allows companies to benefit from green electricity at a fixed, competitive rate without upfront investment or ongoing maintenance responsibilities. Skysun installs solar panels on underutilized spaces such as large rooftops (over 1,500 m²), parking lots, and vacant land. The generated electricity is primarily for the client's self-consumption, with any surplus sold to an energy community or back to the grid. Skysun's revenue is generated through these long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which can last up to 20 years.
Since its inception, Skysun has expanded from Belgium into France and has installed nearly 20 MWp of solar capacity. The company achieved profitability in 2022 and secured €16.85 million in a Series A funding round to support its growth across the Benelux region and France. Its goal is to develop and manage 750 MWp of solar capacity by 2030. Skysun is a certified B Corporation, underscoring its commitment to high social and environmental standards. It has also been recognized by the Solar Impulse Foundation as one of 1,000 solutions to combat climate change.
