About SkyRecon Systems

Founded in 2003 by Ravy Truchot, SkyRecon Systems established itself as a global provider of endpoint protection platforms, with headquarters in Paris, France, and San Jose, California. The company specialized in behavioral security software designed to protect endpoint systems, data, and applications from internal and external threats.

SkyRecon's flagship product was the StormShield Security Suite, a unified endpoint security solution that operated on a single, lightweight agent. This suite offered a multi-layered defense, integrating features like device and application control, data encryption, host-based intrusion prevention (HIPS), system firewall, wireless security, and network access control (NAC). Unlike resource-intensive full disk encryption, StormShield utilized a file-based content encryption system, allowing for more efficient IT operations and patch management while securing sensitive data. The platform was designed to provide protection against zero-day attacks through its behavior-based detection methods rather than relying solely on constant signature updates. The business model included volume-based pricing for its software modules, which could be purchased separately or as a complete suite, catering to organizations of various sizes.

A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by the French network security firm Arkoon Network Security in 2009. This move was part of Arkoon's strategy to become a European leader in IT security by integrating SkyRecon's endpoint protection with its own network infrastructure security offerings. Subsequently, Arkoon, along with its new subsidiary SkyRecon, was acquired by Cassidian CyberSecurity (now Airbus CyberSecurity) in 2013, a division of the Airbus Group. The StormShield product line was merged with Arkoon and another acquisition, Netasq, to form the brand Stormshield, which continues to operate as a key part of Airbus CyberSecurity's portfolio.
