Skire
A provider of capital program and facilities management applications available on the cloud and on-premise
About Skire
Skire, Inc. operated as a provider of cloud-based and on-premise software solutions for managing capital projects, facilities, and real estate. The company was established in 1998 by Massy Mehdipour, who served as its CEO. Mehdipour's background includes experience at Bechtel and founding a prior company that provided project management services before shifting focus to software. The business was initially venture-funded, but Mehdipour bought out the investors in 2002 following the dot-com crash. By 2009, the company was reportedly generating around $25 million in revenue and had been profitable since 2005.
The company's core offering was the Unifier platform, a web-based, integrated suite designed to optimize business processes, data, and documents. Skire's business model centered on providing this platform to clients in asset-heavy industries, such as process, power, and construction. The software provided a comprehensive set of management and governance tools covering the entire project lifecycle, from initial planning and construction to ongoing operations and maintenance. Clients could deploy enterprise-wide solutions or targeted modules for specific needs like project controls, document management, cash flow forecasting, and lease management. The platform was designed to be highly configurable to meet specific customer requirements without custom code. Notable clients included Anheuser-Busch, Xcel Energy Inc., and Boise.
A significant milestone in Skire's history was its acquisition by Oracle on July 19, 2012. The terms of the deal were not publicly disclosed. Following the acquisition, Skire's assets and employees were integrated into Oracle's Primavera Global Business Unit. The strategic goal was to combine Skire's Unifier platform, particularly its financial control and facilities management strengths, with the Oracle Primavera product suite's capabilities in scheduling and project delivery. This combination aimed to create a full-lifecycle Enterprise Project Portfolio Management (EPPM) platform. The product was subsequently rebranded as Oracle Primavera Unifier and was offered both as a cloud service and for on-premise installation.
