Simpleclub GmbH operates a digital learning platform targeting German-speaking students from 5th grade through to higher education and vocational training. The company's history began in 2011 when co-founders Alexander Giesecke and Nicolai Schork, then 17-year-old high school students, launched a YouTube channel called "TheSimpleMaths" to create math tutorial videos for their peers. Recognizing the limitations of their school system, they aimed to explain concepts in an accessible, peer-to-peer style. This initial project expanded to other subjects like physics, biology, and chemistry in 2014, leading to the formal establishment of Simpleclub GmbH in 2015.

The business operates on a dual model, serving both individual learners (B2C) and corporate clients (B2B). The primary revenue stream is a subscription-based (freemium) model where users can access a large library of content for free, while paid subscriptions unlock premium features like personalized learning plans, exam simulators, flashcards, and an AI-powered tutor. The platform's content, which includes videos, exercises, and text summaries, is developed by a team of didactics and technology experts to align with official curricula. On the B2B side, Simpleclub partners with over 450 companies, including major corporations like Deutsche Bahn, Sparkasse, and Brillux, to digitize their apprenticeship and employee training programs. This segment provides companies with a combined Learning Management System (LMS) and content library, covering over 40 vocational training professions and continuing education topics.

The transition from a YouTube content creator to a technology company marked a significant pivot, driven by the realization that an entertainment platform was not the ideal long-term host for their educational vision. This led to the development of the standalone Simpleclub app. The company has successfully raised approximately $16.6 million in total funding over four rounds, with backing from prominent investors such as HV Capital, 10x Founders, and the founders of successful German startups like FlixBus and CoachHub. Giesecke and Schork, who have known each other since fifth grade, continue to lead the company as co-CEOs, leveraging their early start and deep understanding of the user base to grow the platform to over 2 million monthly users.
