About Siemens Energy

You might think of Siemens Energy as a new company, and in a way, you'd be right. But its story really starts over 175 years ago. Today, Siemens Energy is one of the world's leading energy technology companies, tackling the massive challenge of transitioning to a more sustainable energy future. An estimated one-sixth of the world's electricity is generated using its technology. The company's roots trace back to 1847, when Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske founded a telegraph construction company in Berlin. While their early work focused on communications, it was Werner von Siemens' discovery of the dynamo-electric principle in 1866 that laid the foundation for modern power generation and set the stage for the company's future in energy. For more than a century, the energy business was a core part of the industrial conglomerate Siemens AG. But the energy landscape is changing dramatically. To gain the focus and flexibility needed to navigate this shift, Siemens took a bold step. On April 1, 2020, it spun off its Gas and Power division, creating the independent Siemens Energy AG. This new entity made its debut on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on September 28, 2020. A key move in its early life was taking full ownership of the wind power subsidiary Siemens Gamesa, consolidating its position in renewable energy. Today, led by CEO Christian Bruch, Siemens Energy operates across the entire energy value chain—from gas turbines and grid technologies to wind power and the development of green hydrogen solutions. While facing challenges, particularly in its wind division, the company is positioning itself as a central player in decarbonizing global energy systems for the years to come.
