About Serentis
Serentis Ltd. was a biopharmaceutical company established in 2006 by Tim Sharpington, Alan Rothaul, and Andy Baxter. The firm was strategically focused on innovating, acquiring, and developing products for the dermatology and wound care markets. Serentis operated with a business model centered on building a pipeline of proprietary products to address unmet medical needs within these sectors. Its strategy involved sourcing projects from in-house, low-risk research programs and by licensing or acquiring external projects. The company aimed to move these projects rapidly through proof-of-principle trials.
In July 2007, Serentis secured a significant £10.3 million in a Series A financing round, which was co-led by its founding investors MVM Life Science Partners LLP, Apposite Capital LLP, and Novo A/S. This funding was intended to expand the management team and advance its lead compounds. A key milestone occurred in October 2007 when Serentis acquired Surface Therapeutics Ltd., a company specializing in atopic dermatitis. This acquisition was followed by an expansion of its Series A financing in August 2008, adding £10 million to the total and bringing the round to £15.3 million. The additional capital was earmarked for advancing and expanding the company's dermatology pipeline.
The company's product pipeline included SRD441, a topical therapy for atopic dermatitis, and SRD174, a topical treatment for pruritus (itch). Additionally, Serentis had research programs for SRD326, a product for Raynaud's phenomenon, and SRD285, aimed at wound care to promote healing and provide local analgesia. Despite its early-stage financing and pipeline development, sources indicate that the company is no longer active.
