Open IoT integration platform and non-intrusive sensors
About Sensative
Founded in 2013 in Lund, Sweden, Sensative AB is a technology company specializing in hardware and software for the Internet of Things (IoT) sector. The company's genesis was an idea by founders Fredrik Westman and Anders Hedberg for an ultra-thin, invisible door and window sensor, which they entered into an open-innovation contest. Though they did not win, they pursued the concept, joined by Mats Pettersson, and successfully developed their first product, "Strips". Pettersson, who is a co-founder and now CTO/CPO, brought extensive experience from the mobile phone industry at Ericsson, including work on the first mobile phones and Bluetooth technology. The company's first funding came from a 2015 Indiegogo campaign that raised nearly $70,000.
Sensative operates on a dual-product strategy. The first component is Yggio, a horizontal open IoT integration platform designed to counteract vendor lock-in by allowing data and device interoperability. Described as an operating system for digital twins, Yggio serves as a middleware that integrates various IoT devices, sensors, and IT systems, regardless of protocol or manufacturer (including LoRaWAN, Z-Wave, BACnet, and others). It provides a single, standardized API, enabling clients like cities, municipalities, and commercial property owners to manage their device infrastructure, control data access, and rapidly deploy new services. The platform also includes tools for automation and supports AI and machine learning frameworks for advanced analytics.
The second component is a portfolio of discreet, ultra-thin (3mm) wireless multi-sensors, most notably the "Strips" family. These sensors are designed for non-intrusive installation and feature a battery life of up to 10 years, minimizing maintenance. The product line includes sensors for monitoring temperature, humidity, light (LUX), water leaks, occupancy, and magnetic open/close detection for doors and windows. These devices are built on Z-Wave and LoRaWAN technologies, allowing them to function with the Yggio platform or other compatible third-party systems. Sensative's business model targets clients in smart buildings, smart cities, utilities, and agriculture, offering its solutions through a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) model or on-premise licensing for Yggio, alongside direct sales of its sensor hardware.
