About SCI Ecommerce
SCI Ecommerce is a software-enabled digital commerce optimizer focused on the Asian market, particularly facilitating cross-border trade between China and Southeast Asian nations. The company was founded in Singapore in 2014 by Joseph Liu Jiannan. Liu, a graduate of Nanyang Technology University in Singapore, began his journey as an online seller in 2011, quickly becoming a top service provider on the Qoo10 platform, which provided him with foundational experience in gaining online traffic and converting visitors into customers. In June 2025, after 15 years, Liu stepped down, and the company appointed Lazada co-founder Magnus Ekbom as the new Group CEO.
SCI Ecommerce provides a comprehensive suite of services for brands and merchants looking to establish or expand their online presence in Asia. Its business model is based on two main revenue streams: merchant solutions and service subscriptions. The company's offerings include digital marketing, content creation, warehousing and fulfillment, customer service management, data analytics, and SaaS solutions. This integrated approach allows SCI to manage over 6,000 online stores for its partners across major e-commerce platforms like Alibaba's Tmall, Lazada, and Shopee. The company serves medium to large international and local companies, with notable clients such as Unilever, Abbott, Nestlé, Danone, and Stanley Black & Decker.
The company has demonstrated significant growth, with revenues more than doubling from 2019 to over US$100 million in 2020. It has been profitable since 2019. In May 2021, SCI Ecommerce completed a significant fundraising round of over S$50 million, led by Asia Partners, which valued the company at US$235 million. This was followed by an expansion tranche, bringing the total capital raised in that round to approximately S$88 million. The company's backers include two of Alibaba's co-founders, James Sheng and Eddie Wu. In June 2025, alongside the CEO change, SCI acquired the AI startup SEAI Technologies to integrate AI, automation, and data capabilities into its services. The company is reportedly considering an IPO as soon as mid-2025.
