The company was founded in 2021 by Leo Nilsson, who served as CEO, and Joachim Hedenius. The founding team brought significant experience from successful Nordic tech firms; Nilsson was the former CPO of iZettle, and Hedenius was a co-founder and CTO of Kry/Livi. Their shared mission was to address a sense of disconnection in online social interactions.

The firm secured €3.5 million in a seed funding round in July 2021, led by Creandum with participation from Heartcore Capital and Emblem. Scapin's core business was developing an app-based social metaverse platform. This platform allowed users to create personalized avatars and virtual spaces, craft digital items to share, and interact with friends or the public in an immersive environment. The service was designed to bridge the gap between gaming and social media, empowering users to build and express a virtual self. The application utilized spatial interfaces and virtual interactivity to bring real-life experiences, like attending events or sharing content, into a digital format. It was intended for both casual users seeking deeper social connections and for creators and developers who could build visuals and features for the virtual world. The mobile application was developed for both Android and iOS devices.

Despite its early-stage funding and experienced founders, the company ceased operations, with its status marked as "deadpooled" as of early 2024.
