About Sandbridge Technologies

Sandbridge Technologies, Inc. operated as a fabless semiconductor company, established in 2000 and headquartered in White Plains, New York. The company was founded by John Glossner and a team of veterans from the technology sector, including individuals from IBM, Lucent, and Cadence. Sandbridge focused on developing and marketing software-defined radio (SDR) baseband processors and broadband wireless chipsets for the wireless handset industry.

The core of Sandbridge's business was to provide reprogrammable, low-power solutions that could replace fixed-function hardware in mobile devices. This approach was designed to help handset manufacturers accelerate product development and reduce costs by allowing them to design, test, and implement features using a single, flexible software-based platform. The company's main product line was centered around its patented SandBlaster™ architecture, which included multicore processors and a C Compiler and software tool suite. A notable product was the SB3500 chip, which featured the Sandblaster DSP for executing baseband operations in software and included a programmable RF interface.

Throughout its operation, Sandbridge secured significant venture capital funding, raising a total of $96.4M across several rounds. Key investors included Atlas Venture, Bessemer Venture Partners, Columbia Capital, Siemens Venture Capital, and Samsung Venture Investment. A significant Series B funding round in May 2006 was led by Samsung Ventures, raising $15.4 million. In November 2010, Sandbridge Technologies was acquired by Qualcomm for an estimated $55 million, primarily for its patents and intellectual property. Following the acquisition, it was reported that the U.S. R&D center was rebranded as Optimum Semiconductor Technologies and acquired by China's Wuxi DSP Technologies.
