About Rosneft

Rosneft PJSC is an integrated Russian energy company with operations spanning the entire oil and gas value chain, from exploration and production to refining, distribution, and petrochemicals. The company was established in 1993 by the Russian government, consolidating state-owned oil and gas assets remaining after the post-Soviet privatization wave. It was transformed into an open joint-stock company in September 1995. Initially facing financial and operational struggles, the company's trajectory shifted significantly in the 2000s through strategic acquisitions, notably assets from the former Yukos oil company, which positioned Rosneft as Russia's leading oil producer by 2005.

A pivotal moment in the company's history was the acquisition of TNK-BP in 2013, a move that established Rosneft as the world's largest publicly traded petroleum company at the time. The company's initial public offering (IPO) in 2006 was the largest in Russian history, placing shares on both the London and Moscow stock exchanges. The Russian government maintains control through its holding company, Rosneftegaz. The company's business model is centered on vertical integration, aiming to maximize value at each stage of the hydrocarbon lifecycle. Revenue is primarily generated from the sale of refined petroleum products, crude oil, and natural gas to both domestic and international markets in Europe and Asia. Its business strategy includes forming strategic alliances with international energy companies like ExxonMobil, Statoil, and Eni for exploration and development, particularly in the Arctic.

Rosneft's operations are extensive, covering all key oil and gas regions of Russia, including Western and Eastern Siberia, the Far East, and the Arctic shelf. The company's upstream activities focus on exploration and production, while its downstream segment includes a network of 13 large refineries and approximately 3,000 retail filling stations across Russia. Beyond fuels, Rosneft produces a wide range of petrochemicals and lubricants, with a product catalog of over 1,000 items for automotive, industrial, and specialized applications like aviation and space engineering. A subsidiary, RN-Lubricants, manages the production and sale of these products globally. The company has also focused on becoming self-sufficient in catalyst production for its refining processes.
