Established in December 2014, Shenzhen Ricequant Technology Co. Ltd. operates a platform in China focused on quantitative investment and asset management. The founding team possesses a strong background in both technology and finance. Co-founder and CEO, Li Ke, holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, along with a postgraduate degree in financial mathematics. His professional experience includes developing core trading and algorithmic systems for notable financial institutions like Deutsche Bank and top-tier software companies such as ORC, which served clients like Morgan Stanley and Nomura. This deep expertise in financial systems architecture is a cornerstone of Ricequant's technological foundation. Other key members of the team include co-founder and CMO Zoe Niu, and CTO Chenfeng Li, who also has extensive experience from ORC.

Ricequant’s business model is centered on providing data and infrastructure as a service (SaaS) to professional institutional clients, including banks, asset management firms, and securities companies. Initially targeting individual developers and quantitative enthusiasts, the company pivoted to focus on the B2B market in 2017. Its product suite is designed to liberate institutions from the cumbersome tasks of IT infrastructure setup and data cleaning, allowing them to focus on investment research and strategy development. The platform generates revenue through subscriptions and providing these specialized solutions.

The core offerings are structured around three main components: RQData, RQPro, and RQBeta. RQData provides high-quality, clean financial data through an API, covering a wide range of assets including Chinese A-shares, futures, and options, with historical data spanning over a decade. RQPro serves as the execution terminal, featuring a strategy engine, order management system (OMS), and portfolio management system (PMS). RQBeta is a performance and risk attribution analysis tool that helps clients evaluate their strategies. The company also offers RQAlpha, a powerful open-source Python framework for algorithmic backtesting and trading, which has a significant following on GitHub.
