About RFactr

rFactr, Inc. was a Charlotte-based company that developed and sold a social communication management system designed to increase demand generation, lead generation, and sales for enterprise-level organizations. The firm was incorporated on February 22, 2000, and was led by Richard Brasser as President and CEO, and Greg Gentner as Vice President and COO. Brasser, a former professional golfer, transitioned into entrepreneurship and founded the company, which initially operated as a strategy and consulting firm before developing its main software product around 2008.

The company's core offering was a software platform that enabled sales representatives to share content across social media channels. This system, known as a social port, integrated directly with clients' CRM systems, allowing sales teams to engage with potential buyers more effectively and establish thought leadership within their industries. rFactr operated on a per-user, per-month subscription model, with pricing starting at approximately $5,000 per month for its 220 customers in 2017. The business catered to enterprise-class organizations looking to leverage social networks as part of their sales strategy.

The company's history includes a period of bootstrapping for its first eight years, followed by a seed funding round that raised a total of $9 million by 2017. However, the company, which became defunct around 2019, faced significant legal challenges. Between 2013 and 2017, the company's leadership engaged in noncompliance with employment tax obligations. This involved collecting over $600,000 in trust fund taxes from employee wages without filing the necessary forms or remitting the funds to the IRS, leading to a total of over $1.1 million in owed employment taxes. In March 2024, Brasser and Gentner were convicted on multiple counts of failing to account for and pay over trust fund taxes. In February 2025, they were each sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by a one-year term of supervised release.
