RenoRun was established in Montreal, Canada, around 2016-2017 by co-founders Eamonn O'Rourke, Joelle Chartrand, and Devlin McDougall Chartrand. The founding vision emerged from a direct observation of a critical inefficiency in the construction industry: contractors and their skilled employees were losing valuable time and money on frequent trips to procure building materials. O'Rourke, who serves as the company's CEO, brought over two decades of experience in the construction sector across Ireland, Canada, and the United States, providing deep insight into the daily challenges faced by contractors.

The company operated an e-commerce platform and delivery service specifically designed for construction and renovation professionals. Through a mobile app and website, clients could order from a vast catalog of building materials, including lumber, drywall, hardware, and paint. RenoRun's core value proposition was its rapid and reliable delivery service, promising materials to the job site in as little as two hours, thereby maximizing crew productivity by keeping workers on-site. This service aimed to solve the significant hidden costs associated with labor downtime during material runs. The business model was multifaceted, generating revenue from the sale of materials, delivery fees, and a tiered monthly subscription service, RenoRun Pro, which offered benefits like free same-day delivery.

RenoRun pursued a vertically integrated approach, sourcing materials from a network of local suppliers and distributors, and in some markets, operating its own warehouses to ensure a comprehensive inventory. This strategy allowed for flexible and efficient fulfillment. The company primarily served residential renovation contractors but also catered to home builders and commercial contractors. After its inception, RenoRun embarked on a significant growth trajectory, securing a $3 million seed round in 2018, a $22.5 million Series A in 2019, and a substantial $142 million USD Series B round in late 2021. This funding fueled rapid expansion into several major cities across Canada and the United States, including Toronto, Boston, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. However, facing challenges in a difficult venture capital market, the company filed for creditor protection in March 2023 and subsequently ceased operations.
