Originally founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2014 as Farmbot by co-founders Andrew Coppin and Craig Hendricks, the company emerged during a significant drought with the goal of conserving and monitoring water resources. Coppin's background in Australian cattle ranching provided firsthand insight into the critical need for reliable water management.

The company has since evolved from an Australian technology pioneer into a global player in the agri-tech space. In August 2026, Ranchbot completed a corporate "flip-up" to establish Ranchbot Technology Holdings Inc. as its new Delaware-based parent company and moved its global headquarters to Fort Worth, Texas. This strategic relocation places the firm in the center of the North American cattle industry. Concurrent with this move, the company secured over $15 million in a Series B funding round led by Lewis & Clark Partners, with participation from other notable agri-tech investors including Fulcrum Global Capital, Builders VC, and The Cultiv8 Livestock Technology Fund. This capital is intended to expand its teams in the U.S. and Australia, enhance product development, and pursue new partnerships.

Ranchbot's business model combines hardware sales with a recurring 'Service and Access Plan' (SAP) subscription. The core product is a system of IoT devices that leverage satellite and cellular connectivity to provide real-time monitoring of water infrastructure. This eliminates the need for manual water checks, a costly and time-consuming task for ranchers. The solar-powered sensors can be installed on water tanks, troughs, pipelines, and bores to monitor levels, pressure, and flow rates. The system sends near real-time alerts to a user's smartphone or desktop via the MyRanchbot platform if a leak is detected or water levels become critical, thereby protecting herd welfare and saving on labor, fuel, and vehicle costs. The product line includes add-ons like rain gauges and remote pump controls. Ranchbot serves over 12,000 customers who manage approximately 10 million cattle and 15 million sheep across Australia, North America, and other markets.
