Leading emarketplace relationship management company that empowers emarket makers to attract MoreLess

While the domain Question.com redirects to Answers.com, the underlying operating company is Answers Corporation, which has a long and complex history as a knowledge-sharing platform.

The company was originally founded as GuruNet in 1999 by American-Israeli entrepreneur Bob Rosenschein and co-founder Mark Tebbe. Rosenschein, who had previously been involved in creating Hebrew and Arabic versions of Microsoft Windows, conceived GuruNet as a downloadable software that provided users with one-click access to a pop-up encyclopedia. Initially, this service was offered on a subscription basis.

A significant pivot occurred in 2004 when GuruNet acquired the domain name Answers.com for $80,000 and rebranded. In January 2005, the firm shifted its business model from subscriptions to a free, advertising-supported service. This strategic change was followed by a public listing on the NASDAQ under the ticker "ANSW". The platform's offering is a user-generated content model where the community can ask questions and provide answers, serving a global audience with information needs ranging from academic subjects to general trivia.

The company's trajectory has been marked by numerous acquisitions and changes in ownership. In 2006, it acquired FAQ Farm, a Q&A site that was integrated and renamed WikiAnswers, becoming a core component of the platform. In 2011, Answers Corporation was acquired by AFCV Holdings for $127 million. Subsequently, in 2014, Apax Partners acquired the company for approximately $900 million. The company later faced financial difficulties, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017. Most recently, in May 2022, the assets of Answers.com were purchased by System1, an ad-tech company, for around $4.63 million, adding it to its portfolio of digital properties.
