Qilingxin
A domestic CPU chip developer
About Qilingxin
Qilingxin, also known as Quillion Technology, was a semiconductor startup established in 2021 with its headquarters in Shenzhen, China. The company was co-founded by Lin Wei and Wang Qian, both of whom were former high-level executives at Alibaba's chip division, Pingtougo. Lin Wei brought approximately 25 years of industry experience, including involvement in the development of Intel's server CPUs and Huawei Hisilicon's Kirin mobile CPUs.
The firm focused on the development of energy-efficient, general-purpose CPU chips and data center solutions. Its business model centered on providing self-controllable and high-performance CPU chips, along with information system integration and technology consulting services. The target market included clients in need of advanced IT infrastructure and data center capabilities.
Qilingxin showed significant early promise, securing approximately $180 million (around 600 million yuan) in Angel and Series A funding in the first half of 2022. Notable investors included Lightspeed China Partners and the founders of several semiconductor companies such as Will Semiconductor and Maxscend. However, despite its strong start and experienced leadership, the company ceased operations abruptly on August 5, 2022, less than a year after its inception. The rapid failure was primarily attributed to severe internal conflicts between the founders regarding control rights, which led to financial instability and an inability to secure further financing.
